So, we left Kentucky and came across a cool little side trip. We stopped for gas next to the Kentucky Speedway. We met Todd Welch, a member of the fire and rescue team. He told us we could get a good view of the track from the fence across the street.
At the fence we met Diane, a security guard who said we could go thru the tunnel right onto the infield!
We toyed with the idea of driving the race cars ourselves, but since it was $400 per person we felt it was good enough just to watch!
We must admit, that was very cool!
We continued on, arriving at the home of Kathie's cousin Barb. Barb and Dan live on an unbelievable 3 1/2 acre spread RIGHT ON the Stillwater River in Covington Ohio.
A location suitable for a retreat! They made us feel right at home and invited all the Ohio cousins over to have dinner.
We were taken on a tour of Piqua, the birthplace of Kathie's grandfather!
We saw the homestead of Kathie's great grandfather and g'grandmother, their grave sites and the church that they attended.
We then made our way north to Cleveland.
It was unbelievably hot and humid!
100 degrees with about 8 million percent humidity!
We landed at the home of Micky's niece, Joelle and her husband Ryan.
For some reason, Micky's great nephews all want him to sit on them!
We did a lot for just spending one day in Cleveland: we went to a farmers market, enjoyed dinner with the family with homemade "nan" roasted vegetables and bratwurst sausages from a local butcher shop, then Ryan and Joelle took us on a tour of the city by night ending up at a speakeasy, "The Society Lounge" in downtown Cleveland!
